Mahakuthala Kyaung Daw Gyi Buddhist Museum

This museum was opened in 1996 with the articles of the ancient cultural heritage collected by Reverend Pandita, the presiding monk or abbot of Maha Kuthala Monastery in Sittwe. It is a unique museum which has a mix of colonial era and Buddhist artifacts. The museum is in a colonial mansion that is itself well worth a visit.

Just close to the House of Jewels, is the present-day archaeological museum which houses about three hundred pieces of articles consisting of artifacts from Rakhine State. It may well boast of ancient Buddha images, stone carvings, arms, stone inscriptions, coins and other.

This museum is situated in Sittwe. This is a fourstorey building which is 122 feet (37m) long, 94 feet (29m) high. It was opened in 1996. The centre of the museum is a large painting depicting the Rakhine culture and customs.
