Hot-Air Balloon Festival

Hot-Air Balloon Festival held every November in Taunggyi. It is commonly called the Taunggyi Tazaungdaing Festival. One can watch scores of giant paper animals being inflated and floated off into the sky. The competitions run during the day and at night when the sky is colorfully illuminated with hot-air balloons.

Inle Lake Wildlife Sanctuary

Inle Lake Wildlife Sanctuary is a wetland sanctuary and located in Nyaung Shwe, Pinlaung and Peh Kon Townships of Southern Shan State. It covers an area of 642.32 square miles (1663.51km2) and was established in 1985. This sanctuary is to conserve and protect natural vegetation, wetland birds and fresh water fishes in Inlay Sanctuary.

Kalaw

Kalaw stands 1320 meter above sea level on the western edge of the Shan Plateau. It is 70km west of Taunggyi, about halfway along the Thazi-Taunggyi road. This was a popular hill station in the British days and it is still a peaceful and quiet place. It is also pleasantly cool and a good place for hiking amid gnarled pines, bamboo groves and rugged mountain scenes.

Kyaing Tong

Kyaing Tong

Kyaing Tong is the capital city of the Golden Triangle area near the border of China, Thailand and Laos. The town is surrounded by beautiful forests and mountains, offering travelers with trekking experience and a chance to visit the remote villages. Built by Mongrai Chief in 1243 AD, Kyaing Tong is 456km far from Taunggyi and 163km from Tachileik.There are regular flights from Yangon to Kyaing Tong. Visitors coming from Thailand are allowed to cross into this border town with border passes. Tachileik is also a border crossing point through which visitors from Thailand come to Myanmar. Regular air services are available between Heho, Mandalay, Tachileik and Yangon.

Mya Sein Taung Pagoda

Mya Sein Taung Pagoda

The pagoda was built on the hill to the north-east of Taunggyi in 1962. The stupa has a height of 27ft (8m) and the Buddha statue inside is 9ft 9in (3m) high. It is the bronze statue and the weight is 1800 vises. The mountain being situated 5000ft (1524m) above sea level, beautiful northern view of Taunggyi can be seen from the top of it.

At first a steep track leads down into a narrow valley where the Palaung cultivate cheroot. tea. damsons and mangoes on the hill. Some of the people in this village live in the traditional long houses: a stilt establishment long enough to house five or six families to a house. Some others live in single family dwellings.
